COMPARATIVE STUDY FOR DEEP-CULTURAL CONNOTATIONS OF ENGLISH-CHINESE KINSHIP ADDRESS

语言是民族文化的载体 ,英、汉语言各自独特的亲属称谓体系 ,显示出两种不同的文化特征。本文旨在从社会学、历史学的角度 ,探讨英、汉语言中亲属称谓产生差异的社会、历史渊源 ,研究比较其深层文化内涵。指出这种差异的产生与社会性质、政治与经济生活、以及伦理观念有着密切的关系。这有助于英、汉语言学习者在跨文化交际中多一些沟通的成功 。

Language is the carrier of national cultures. The kinship address systems of the English and Chinese languages have different cultural features. From the perspectives of sociology and history, this paper deals with the social and historical origins of the differences in the two systems and compares their deep-cultural connotations. The differences are believed to be closely related to the social qualities, political and economic lives and moralities. This understanding will help learners of both English and Chinese to achieve more successes and reduce misunderstandings in cross-cultural communication.
