刘敦愿先生是我国著名的历史学家、考古学家和美术考古学家。刘先生20世纪50年代以来致力于山东龙山文化田野调查、考古发掘和科学研究工作,对于推进山东龙山文化总体研究水平做出了重要贡献。刘先生80年代以后倾心于美术考古研究,注意从考古资料中提炼美学素材,给予历史价值、科学价值和艺术价值的诠释,是中国美术考古学的创始人。

Liu Dunyuan is a celebrated historian,archeologist and art-archeologist.He devoted himself to the field work,excavation and researches on Shandong Longshan culture since the 50s of the 20th century,contributing significantly in propelling the research as a whole.After the 80s,Mr.Liu was enamored of Art Archaeology,keeping his eyes open to the materials purified from archaeological remains,and then interpreting their value from the aspect of history,science and art.So,Liu is the founder of Art Archaeology in China and a polymath with great achievements in humanities.At the time of 15th anniversary of his death and the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Archaeological Department,it’s a good way to memorize him through recalling his dedication,his pursuing of doing research and the rules of conduct.
