On Writing Purpose and Year of “Two Poems on Grandfathers' Virtues”

谢灵运《述祖德诗二首》为论列其祖谢玄之道德而作。诗中所述谢玄之德既能"贵自我",又"兼抱济物性",最终能够回归"自我"之"宿心",欣赏山水自然之美。两首诗一由"自我"转到"济物",一由"济物"回归"自我",呈现了"济物事功"与"宿心自然"之完美结合。此诗作于义熙十三年(417)或稍后,它与创作稍前的《撰征赋》和稍后的《谢封康乐侯表》,构成了一个以谢玄为中心的谢灵运家族的文本系列,其目的是在易代之际最大限度地维护家族和个人权益。

Xie Lingyun’s'Two Poems on Grandfathers’Virtues'is written on the morality of his grandfather Xie Xuan.In the poem,Xie Xuan not only respects himself,but also takes all living creatures into consideration,finally return to the self and appreciate the beauty of the nature.One poem starts from self and ends with living things while the other starts with living things to self,presenting the perfect combination of taking all living creatures into consideration and respecting self in nature.The poems were written around the thirteenth year of Yixi(417).With the former written'Zhuanzheng Fu'and later'On Xie Feng Kanglehou',those three poems form a text series of Xie Lingyun’s family with Xie Xuan as the center,aiming to protect family and personal rights in changing of dynasty.
