凡尔登战役是第一次世界大战中一场破坏最大的、具有转折的决定性战役。上海法租界当局将德国花园总会改为凡尔登花园,把新建的一条道路命名为贝当路。在凡尔登花园改建为法商球场总会时,其中一部分被建造为住宅,沿用了凡尔登花园的名称。

Battle of Verdun was the most devastating and a decisive battle during WWI,in which the French General Petain made outstanding contribution.In order to commemorate this Battle and Petain,Shanghai French Concession turned German Country Club to Verdun Garden and named a newly-constructed road after Petain.When the Garden was rebuilt into French Merchants Club,a part of it was constructed as residence,continuing to use Verdun Garden as its name.
