中南银行大楼

China&South Sea Bank Building

中南银行由南洋华侨商人黄奕住在上海开办,是侨商在国内开办最成功、最具代表性的商业银行。中南大楼原为中南银行的所在,因此也称中南银行大楼。该大楼原是一幢典型的新古典主义建筑,经过加建后,在比例上有所不符新古典主义的要求,但却另有一番风味,仿佛回到了新古典主义建筑开创前的时期。

Established by an overseas Chinese returned from the Southeast Asia Huang Yizhu in Shanghai,China&South Sea Bank is the most successful and representative commercial bank founded by overseas Chinese in China.Zhongnan Building,located on the former site of the Bank is thus called China&South Sea Bank Building.Originally,it was a typical neoclassical architecture while with later additions,its scale failed to meet the requirement of neoclassicism but possessed a unique flavor,as if returning to the period before the creation of neoclassical architecture.
