The Beginning of the Higher Education of Navigation in China—Wusong Merchant Marine School

本文以档案史料为根基,致力重构我国最早的航海高等学府——吴淞商船专科学校的创校、复校、并校的几番更替,展现主办人唐文治等几代校长艰苦奋斗、渐具规模、校基日固的历程;同时梳理上海航海同业公会、招商局等社会团体和企业在吴淞商船专科学校建校、办学过程中的提携和帮助。旨在通过历史状况的复原,冀有助于澄清对我国'第一所航海高等学府'在中国国有航运业复兴和当时复杂的东西方文化、教育关系中性质与地位的认识。

Based on archives,this article aims to reconstructing the alternations of establishment,re-establishment and merging of Wusong Merchant Marine School,the earliest institution of higher education of navigation in China,showing the hard struggles of Tang Wenzhi and several other school masters as well as the steady development of the School.Meanwhile,it also reviews the support of such social organizations as Shanghai Navigation Association and China Merchant Group for the founding of the School and its process of running.Through reproducing history,the article intends to clarify the role which"the first institution of higher education of navigation"in China played in the renaissance of China domestic shipping industry,the then complicated Eastern and Western cultures and educational relationships.
