Short the Righteous——An American Aviator Sacrificing for Songhu Anti-Japanese War

20世纪30年代,美国人罗伯特·肖特为推销产品而到中国。在'淞沪抗战'爆发时,目睹日寇的残暴,主动要求协助十九路军驾机参战。1932年2月22日在苏州上空与日寇作战时,寡不敌众而身亡。4月24日,上海各界为他举行了追悼大会与出殡仪式,我先祖父在西藏中路南京东路拍摄了出殡场面。本文根据这摄影内容和《申报》报道作了简单的介绍。

Robert Short,an American who came to China for selling airplanes witnessed the cruelty of the Japanese Army during the outbreak of Songhu Anti-Japanese War,voluntarily asking to assist the Nineteenth Route Army in the battle.On February22 nd 1932,he died for being outnumbered when he was fighting against the Japanese in his airplane overhead Suzhou.On April 24 th,Shanghai community held a memorial meeting and funeral procession for him and my grandfather took photos of the procession on today’s Middle Xizang Road and East Nanjing Road.The article briefly introduces this person based on the photos and the news on Shunpao.
