Former Residence of the Architect Mao Ziyao

毛梓尧是我国'奠基开来的第一代建筑师',是国家建设部颁发的'杰出建筑师奖'获得者。幼年随长辈从浙江山村来沪,由学生、学徒成长为建筑设计一代国手。主持参与诸多住宅、公共建筑,包括人民大会堂等国家重大项目设计,是海派文化在建筑行业的优秀代表。他在沪自主设计的寓所,是个人创业的结晶,是掩护地下党秘密工作的场所;而其旧居在毛家北上后的20世纪50年代至80年代被分租调剂给'工农学兵'等各类住户,此楼及楼主经历,堪称上海城市某时段生活的缩影。

Mao Ziyao the first generation of architect in China was the winner of Outstanding Architect Award issued by National Ministry of Construction.Coming from the village of Zhejiang Province in his childhood,he gradually developed into a master of architectural design from a student and apprentice.Many residences and public buildings including several national key projects like Great Hall of the People he participated in are excellent representatives of Shanghai style culture.His residence in Shanghai designed by he himself is not only the fruit of individual business but also a place covering for the secret working of the underground CPC.During 1950 and 1980 when the Mao’s family moved northward,this residence was subleased to various tenements.The experiences of this building and its owner can be regarded an epitome of city life in Shanghai during a certain period.
