上海开埠后,开始了城市化的进程,众多道路的出现是城市化标志之一。这些道路除了路名外,还有指明道路名称的路牌。路名和路牌上。每个城市都有其特点,老上海的路牌因租界、华界的发展过程有异而有所不同;租界、华界内也因各种因素而出现不同的路牌,也有受某些事件发生而产生或大或小的路牌变化。

Urbanization started after Shanghai port was opened and one of its symbols was the appearance of numerous streets.In addition to names,these streets also had signs.Each city has its own features including distinct street names and signs.The street signs in the foreign concessions in old Shanghai were other than those in the Chinese territory due to their different development and the signs varied even within the same territory out of different factors.Some events also led to the evolution of street signs more or less.
