Xu Xiaomu and His Bamboo Engraving Art

2016年是沪上竹刻艺术家徐孝穆(1916-1999)百年诞辰。徐孝穆以毕生精力从事竹刻艺术创作和研究,留下了数以千计的竹刻艺术作品。他在传承传统竹刻技艺的基础上,与一大批著名画家、书法家合作,特别是采用浅刻的方式在竹材上表现写意国画笔法墨韵,创造了自己的艺术风格,受到文学艺术界与海内外人士高度的广泛赞誉。

Year 2016 is the centennial birthday of the Shanghai bamboo engraving artist Xu Xiaomu(1916--1999),who devoted his life to the creation and research on bamboo engraving art,leaving behind thousands of bamboo engraving works.While keeping the traditional bamboo engraving technique,he also cooperated with enormous prominent painters and calligraphers,creating his own style through light engraving on bamboo wood to show decent traditional Chinese painting,which is highly appreciated by the society.
