An inhalation study with increasing concentrations of CS2 was carried out in rats. The concentrations of CS2 inhaled by rats were 300ppm,600ppm, and 800ppm for every 2 weeks respectively. The effects of CS2 on nervous system were determined by cerebral evoked potentials, peripheral nerve conduction and the contents of copper and zinc in the nervous system. The effects of CS2 on PREP and FEP were observed in the second week after exposure. The changes of SEP and sciatic MNCV appeared in the fourth week. The contents of Cu and Zn in the brain increased in the last week, These results revealed that visual evoked potentials are the sensitive non-invasive index for the study of carbon disulfide neurotoxicity, while the roles of Cu and Zn in the mechanism of this neurotoxicity have not. been verified.
