Rocky Mountain Institute's new Innovation Center uses passive design,advanced control system integration and innovative thermal comfort strategies to create an office in the coldest climate zone of the US with no central cooling or heating and only a small,33 kW distributed heating system.By focusing on an airtight and insulative building envelope,actively controlling heat gain from the sun,all six variables affecting human comfort and the system integration process,this building is 74% more efficient than an average office in this climate while making occupants more comfortable and productive.
