Archaeology in Jiangsu: An Interview with Mr.Zou Houben

南京博物院的考古事业发展秉承中央博物院的传统与积淀,在考古发掘、学术研究、人才培养等领域取得了丰硕的成果。新时期南京博物院乃至江苏省的考古事业应如何发展,南京博物院考古所原所长、邹厚本先生认为,应着重探索诸如史前考古学文化的命名与研究,先秦时期吴、徐等诸侯国的界定与研究以及中古时期江苏地域文明的发展进程研究等课题,建立考古工作站和考古资料数据库,培养更多更权威的专业人才,推进科技考古、水下考古、公众考古等各分支学科的建设与发展,从而促进江苏考古事业取得更大的发展。

Rooted in the tradition of the Central Museum of China, the archaeology in Nanjing Museum has achieved fruitful results in excavations, research, and personnel training. How to develop the archaeological cause in the new age, Mr. Zou Houben, former Head of the Archaeological Institute, gives the following suggestions: to focus on the study of the prehistoric cultures and their naming, the boundaries of pre-Qin kingdoms such as the Wu and Xu, and the development of Jiangsu civilization since the Qin through the Qing, to establish archaeological work stations and set up archaeological database, to train more professionals, and to promote archaeological sub-disciplines such as technological archaeology, underwater archaeology, and public archaeology so as to advance archaeology in Jiangsu with more prominent development.
