The Classification of English Verbs with Both Transitive and Intransitive Usage

有些英语动词既有及物用法又有不及物用法,即具有双及物性。这类动词在英语中的使用非常灵活,因为它们可以让语言的表达形象、丰富、简洁,取得很好的效果。本文从语义学的角度研究了大学英语四级词表中同时有及物用法和不及物用法的动词,根据它们的及物意义和不及物意义之间的关系将这类动词分成六种类型,这将有助于这类动词的学习和掌握。

Some English verbs can be used both transitively and intransitively.Their frequent and flexible use in English makes the language various,vivid and concise.This paper studies the verbs of this type in Band 4 Word Book and classifies them into six categories on the basis of the semantic relationship between their transitive usage and intransitive usage.This classification will facilitate Chinese students’ learning of this group of English verbs.
