Differences in Chinese and American Cultures from the Aspect of the Addressing Terms

本文旨在通过英汉两种语言中称呼语的分类和对比来探讨中美文化差异。本文对于英汉称呼语的对比基于两个称呼系统图(见图1,图2)。就图表而言,图1比图2复杂,精细。这种表面差异,实质上充满了文化整体的差异,这是在不同的社会形态下所形成的两个不同的文化形态,两个不同的言语称呼方式。他们经数千年的历史烙印在不同的族群与社会中。本文通过不同类型的称呼语的对比去发现各自所存留的文化积淀及彼此的文化差异。

The main purpose of this article is to discover the differences of Chinese culture and American culture through the comparison d the classification and usage of addressing terms in two respective languages.From the two pictures on page one,it is obvious to find that the Chinese addressing system is much more sophisticated than American.Essentially, these pictures can reflect the great differences of the two countries’ cultures,which are formed in two quite different social systems and have different process.Through the comparison of the different types of addressing terms,we can find the close relationship between language and culture.
