如何提高中国非英语专业学生的课堂自尊(英文)

Chinese Non-English Majors'Self-esteem Enhancement in the English Classroom——A Way to Increase Classroom Involvement

摘要 中国学生在课堂上的"沉默"一直以来都是老师们,尤其是英语老师们感到头疼的事。如何提高课堂参与性已经得到了众多教师的关注。本文试图从中国学生的课堂自尊的角度来发现问题。基于前人所做的研究,本文通过定性与定量的方法对非英语专业的大学生在英语课堂上的自尊状况与他们在英语课堂上的参与情况进行了调查。结果表明中国学生的课堂自尊与其课堂参与情况呈正相关,即中国学生的课堂参与性较低这一现象与他们的课堂自尊偏低有紧密关系。 This paper,based on the self-esteem theory and humanistic theory,sets out to find the relationship between Chinese non-English majors'self-esteem in the English classroom and classroom involvement in the hope of seeking ways to increase classroom involvement.Data were collected through a classroom self-esteem questionnaire for students,a classroom involvement questionnaire for teachers,and structured observations in four classrooms at Huazhong University of Science and Technology so as to discover the students'degree of classroom self-esteem and its correlation with their classroom involvement.The roles that teachers play in the promotion of classroom self-esteem were also worked out.The results of the study show that students'classroom self-esteem is positively related to classroom involvement and most students'classroom self-esteem is too low to involve them in classroom activities.
