Toward a Parameterized Teaching of English in the Chinese Context

本文参考 Leech 的礼貌原则,提出了若干文化常项,认为这些常项在不同的文化背景中可以参数化成不同的优选模式。当在具体交际场合内两项或两项以上的文化常项产生冲突时,优选模式可以选出一种,同时产生最为相关的语言表达。

On the basis of some cultural invariants this paper establishes upon Leech's Politeness Maxims, the author argues for the existence of a number of cultural universals which can be parameterized in different cultural backgrounds into a limited number of preference formats.Such formats may control the selection of a particular cultural variant which in turn may trigger off a pertinent language expression when two or more invariants conflict with each other in a specific communicative circumstance.
