The paper compares Liu Shicong's English translation Wild Grass with the source text written by Xia Yan in the three aspects of sound and rhythm,ideorealm and atmosphere,and personal mode of discourse. Those aspects,in Liu's opinion,can create the lasting appeal of the prose and should be reproduced in translation as the highest standards.The author of the paper holds that Liu's Wild Grass,translated with his principles as guidance,is a beautiful translation with the lasting appeal of the source text retained.This has proved that the principles for prose translation initiated by Liu Shicong are applicable and effective.
