The Basic Level Category and English Middle Construction

英语中动结构因涉及复杂的句法、语义和词汇关系,一直是人们研究讨论的热点。关于中动结构的传统研究主要局限于句法和词汇的角度,并且迄今为止很难对之做出一个满意的解释。本文详细地阐述了中动结构的语法及语义特征,并从认知语言学的基本层次范畴理论出发,对中动结构和中动词的特殊性进行了认知方面的分析,旨在揭示中动结构生成的深层机制。

Middle constructions,which involve a complex interlay between syntax,semantics and the lexicon,are one of the most heatedly discussed topics in linguistics.The traditional researches on middle constructions focus on the syntactic or the lexical basis.But the current analyses all have their problems.In this paper the author provides an alternative analysis from the cognitive point of view.In our analyses of middle constructions,we mainly concentrate on the theory of basic level category to analyze the characteristics of middle constructions and middle verbs,thus revealing the derivation of middle constructions.
