中美英语拒绝语策略手段对比调查

A Survey on Politeness Strategies in English Refusals of Americans and Chinese

本文采用语篇补全测试问卷,参照 Beebe 等的语义公式,调查了我校大学生和美国人英语拒绝语策略手段使用情况。结果表明中美双方使用的策略手段相似,但是中国学生的拒绝语冗长,不如美国人简洁得体。起始语和社会地位对策略的选择有一定的影响。

With reference to the taxonomy by Beebe et al,the paper administers a discourse completion test with Chinese ESL college students and Americans to investigate their usage of politeness strategies in making English refusals.The results suggest that both groups use similar strategies with similar frequency in making refusals.However,the Chinese's production is longer but less appropriate than that of Americans'. What's more,eliciting speech acts and social status exert some influence on the choice of strategies.
