摘要
《法国中尉的女人》自1969年问世以来在世界范围产生了广泛而持久的影响,不同的评论家从不同的角度看到了小说的不同魅力。细读文本,笔者认为小说的魅力主要源于小说女主人公莎拉的神秘个性.而人物的这种神秘个性则主要源于小说创作的时代背景与小说故事所发生的时代背景的矛盾以及福尔斯本人的小说观和创作动因.
The French Lieutenant's Woman has been a great success since it was first published in 1969. Different critics have found various attractions in the novel in terms of different angles.Rereading the novel carefully,the writer of this article finds that the attraction of this novel results from the mysterious character of the heroine Sarah.And the sources of this mystery lie in two sides:the contradiction of two eras—Victoria period and the 20th century and Fowels'concept of novel and motivation of creating novels.
