'Distance'is one of the central themes of Richard Wright's autobiographical novel 'Black Boy'.It refers to the distanced or isolated relations between the narrator and the American society or society communities.This paper aims to investigate how this relationship is revolved,interpret distance from different perspectives,especially,how the narrator chose to become a writer and with his writing,was able to address the difficult issues of life and reality.
