To investigate the effect of blood gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MOT) levels in premature infants by Minimal Enteral Feedings (MEF) , GAS and MOT were measured in 53 premature infants on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after birth. They were divided into three groups: fast group, MEF group and normal feeding group. Results showed that the blood levels of GAS and MOT in normal feeding group and MEF group were significantly higher than in fast group. The blood level of GAS was not significant difference between MEF group and normal feeding group. But, the blood level of MOT was significantly lower in MEF group than in normal feeding group on the 3rd day, and no significan difference between them on the 7th day. Therefore, the excretion of GAS and MOT was inhibited in premature infants with fast. Minimal enteral feedings can improve the gastrointestinal tract functional of premature infants.
