《获虎之夜》的命意并非诸多评论所认为的是表现贫富阶级的对立 ,而是借婚姻故事表现一种执着追求的精神 ,表现因理想追求与现实艰难之间的冲突而激发的焦虑挣扎和追求不得而自甘毁灭的殉道精神。这与田汉的悲剧意识有关。田汉悲剧意识的渊源 ,乃是源远流长的湖湘文化。

The theme of Night of Tiger-Trapping is to show a spirit of ever-lasting pursuit, not as what many comments claim to be the conflict between the rich and the poor. It reveals through the story of marriage the anxiety and struggle triggered by the conflict between utopia and reality, together with the compelled self-sacrifice of the hero and heroine. There is a certain relationship between the theme and Tian Han’s tragic consciousness, which can be traced back to the long-historical Xiang Culture.
