Objective To explore the effect of dexmedetomidine anesthesia on cognitive impairment after orthopedics. Methods A total of 128 elderly orthopaedic patients admitted to our hospital in 2012 were selected and randomly divided into two groups, with 64 each group. The control group was treated with conventional anesthesia, while the observation group was treated with dexmedetomidine. The post-operative wake-up time and mental state checklist scores of the two groups were observed, and the incidence of cognitive impairment were compare. Results The patients in the observation group had less postoperative waking time than the control group(P<0.05),and the score of the intelligent mental status examination table of the patients was better than the control group(P<0.05),and the incidence of postoperative cognitive impairment of the patients in the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion The use of dexmedetomidine for anesthesia in elderly orthopaedic patients has a good anesthetic effect, which can effectively help patients to wake up as soon as possible after surgery and effectively reduce the incidence rate of postoperative cognitive impairment.
