The Consequence of Modernity:Space Reconstruction and Others

现代化过程之一的决定性特征就是以重组空间的名义、借"脱域机制"打一场旷日持久的竞争之战。一方面,自由、平等、博爱是西方现代性的三大价值基色。另一方面,现代性内含的理性主义、个人主义价值原则却带来自我与他者非对称权力结构的巩固,自我支配他者意识的强化。就像现代市场经济不断生产出各式的商品,现代性的展开带来各种他者,这些进入"我"生活秩序的他者造成了我的焦虑和怨恨。这种怨恨危机是现代性自反的结果,不仅因为现代竞争促成了这一情绪,而且因为现代人在宗教、家庭这两个传统自我价值获取之源被削弱后,转向通过他人的意见来形成自我价值感,所以虚荣、害怕丢脸等动机变得强烈起来。

One of the decisive characteristics of modernization is an unending competition war in the name of space reconstruction and by the disembedding mechanism.On one hand,liberty,equality and fraternity are the three basic values in the western modernity.On the other hand,the principles of rationality and individualism contained in modernity lead to consolidate the asymmetrical power structure between self and others and strengthen the dominating consciousness of self over others.Just as the modern market economy keeps producing various commodities,the development of modernity brings different kinds of others.These others,who enter into my everyday routines cause my anxiety and resentment.Such resentment crisis is the reflective result of modernity,not only because modern competition helps to bring about this emotion,but also because after the religion and family,which are the traditional origins for the self-value,are weakened,people turn to others' opinions to gain the self-values,which makes the motive of vanity,losing face and so on become much stronger.
