Forster's last novel A Passage to India is widely acknowledged as the author's most outstanding work. It studies the contrasts between British and Indian cultures. It is my attempt in this thesis to use cross-cultural theories to study the cultural misunderstanding and its roots in the novel. I believe that the inequality between nations, the difference between cultures and the lack of psychological preparation in other cultures are the main causes of cultural conflict.
