Histopathology of the facial nerve in herpes zoster oticus

耳带状疤疹是由带状疤疹病毒感染所引起的一种疾病。耳部疤疹、面瘫、听力障碍是三个主要症状。本病属少见,其病变部位在膝状神经节至锥体段,主要在面神经的水平段,而垂直段正常,本文报告1例,发现病变的部位是在垂直段面神经的外膜,而水平段正常。

Herpes zoster oticus is a disease caused by varicella zoster viral in faction.Herpes oticus,facial palsy and deafness are the three main symptoms.This disease is uncommon,whose histopathology can be carried out only in the condition of postmortem.The reports about this are very rare.Reviewing all the lectures on this field,the reports of this disease are less than 10 cases during the last century.A consistent finding of previous postmortem studies on herpes zoster oticus was inflammatory changes taken place in the middle ear mucosa close to the facial canal,from the geniculate ganglion to the pyramidal portion mainly in the horizontal portion.In the vertical portion the sheath and facial nerve appeared to be almost normal.We report a histopathol-ogic finding on the patient caused by herpes zoster opticus.Her inflammatory changes have taken place in epineurium of the facial nerve which showed thickening mainly in vertical portion,while in the horizontal portion appeared to be almost normal.
