From Confucianism to Taoism:Comparison of the Monument to the People's Hero and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

大多数人认为从20世纪50年代到80年代这段时间,是东方世界与西方世界、共产主义与资本主义的文化冲突最重要的时期。本文将分析在这一时期建造的两座纪念碑——1953年建造的中国人民英雄纪念碑和1980年建造的美国越南战争纪念碑,将从设计者、文化背景和历史影响这几方面来探讨这两座历史的里程碑之间的区别与联系。

Most people consider the time between 1950s and 1980s as the most important culture conflicted period from the east world to the west world and from the communism to the capitalism.This paper analyzes two memorials built in this period-The Monument to the People’s Hero(MTTPH) of China in 1953 and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial(VVM) of the U.S.in 1980.I discuss the differences and connections between these two historical landmarks in terms of the designers,the culture backgrounds and the historical influences.
