Intracellular recording is a common method in insect neurobiological research.It is used to obtain information about the processes of excitation and inhibition in a neuron and the mechanisms that initiate nerve impulses.It is performed by inserting the tip of a microelectrode into a nerve cell.The same electrode can be used to pass currents through the membrane.This technique is introduced using activity recordings of two motor neurons in the metathoracic ganglion of the locust Schistocerca gregaria.
