Immigration in Canada in the 20th Century:A Centennial Retrospect and a Prospect

The influx of immigrants into Canada in the 1990s has brought not only an important impact on its economy, but also the changes in its population and ethnic structures. Based on the Canadian Census 1996 and other relevant data, this paper makes a review of the immigration into Canada in the 20th century, giving its highlights to the distributive, occupational, educational, linguistic and cultural characteristics of the recent immigrants. The impact of immigration on Canada's population in the future is also expected.
