An official from the State Environmental Protection Administration says that based on an average annual GDP growth of no less than 7.5% the investment in environmental protection during the Elev-enth Five-year Plan period (2006-2010) is expected to reach RMB1 375 billion, ac-counting for around 1.6% of the GDP in the same period (the total GDP in that period being RMB85 000 billion). The 80 000-word research report pre-pared by the State Environmental Protec-tion Administration has been submitted to the State Council, and will play a role in the examination of the overall Eleventh Five-year development program by the National People’s Congress next year.
