The paper reviews the biosyntheticpathway, the biochemical charaters and the breeding methods of D - ribose overproducing mutant. The strain of Bacillus genus has the ability of D - ribose overproducing .The deficent in tranketolase is vital to the breeding of D - ribose overproducing ability, while high in gluconokinase or glucose dehydrogenase and asporogenous are neccesary to the over - producing of D - ribose. In addition, fermentation medium and cultivation coditions are important to the accumulation of D - ribose.
