Basic concepts about the smart antenna technolog y are pre-sented first,and then the develop-ment and applications of the tech-nolog y in mobile communications are introduced.It is noted that with the smart antenna technolog y,not only the performance and capacity of a mobile communications system can be g reatly optimized,but also the operation and maintenance of the system can be simplified.At last,the desig n methods of switch-ing -beam array antenna and clas-sical adaptive array alg orithms are discussed.
