DNA sequences about 457-pb fragments of the mit ochondrial 16SrRNA in 6 populations of Penaeus merguiensis were compared. Sequence analysis revealed ver y low differentiation and that the genetic distances( D )were ranged between 0-0.008 5 within 6 populations. The results indicated that three Guangdong populations(PM ST, PMZJ, PMHK)are different local populations of the same species with Austral ia or Singapore population(PMA or PMS).
