养其根而俟其实,加其膏而希其光——浅析赞比亚的经济与铜工业

Analysis on Zambia's economy and copper industry

赞比亚是一个贫穷的非洲国家,外资控制的铜工业是赞比亚的经济支柱。英美公司(AngloAmerican)下属孔科拉铜矿公司(KCM)是赞比亚主要的铜生产商,2001年,KCM铜产量占全国产量的67%。由于铜价低迷,英美公司决定撤出KCM,不再向KCM投资。多数分析家认为,英美公司的撤出将会导致KCM及赞比亚铜工业的衰退,并使赞比亚经济一蹶不振。但笔者认为,在受此打击的同时也促进了赞比亚政府对经济发展新思路的产生和实施,从而将有助于赞比亚铜工业能长期稳定、持续发展。

The copper industry in Zambia is control led by foreign capitalists, and mean-while is the mainstay of Zambia's economy.The Konkola Mining Corp.af filiated with Anglo American Corp.,is the main copper producer and trader one in Zambia as can be shown its copper output in2001accounted for about 67 %of Zambia's total.However,Anglo American Corp.decided to withdraw from Konk ola and no longer to invest Konkola on accunt of copper market price on the low side for long.Thus,many analysts deem that would bring the with-drawal about withering of both Konkola and the copper industry in Zambia,and to the eco-n omic recession of Zambia,but rather the writers deem that the withdrawal will come as a blow to Zambia and meanwhile will lead Zambia Government up to a new train of thoughts for her economic development ,that is conducive to the stead y and sustained development of Zambia's copper industry in future.
