Recently Sina, Sohu and Netease, the three domestic portals listed in U.S.A., have published their
seeond-quater financial statements, which showed that the revenues of these companies have registered a
substantial rise and deficits declined sharply compared with the same period of previous year. In terms of earnings
per share, Sina and Sohu are afmost profitable while Netease got its first earnings ever. The value of their shares appears
robust thanks to their increasingly improved basic operating status. Facing the direness of the stock market in U.S.A. and
Internet stocks, our domestic dot-com stocks- keep rising on the contrary as a result of the improved performance of these
companies. According to industry forecasts, 40% of domestic portals will be turning profitable by the end of this year. The
Chinese Internet industry finally enters a harvest season-after going through an investment fever in 1999 and 2000 and a deep
dive in 2001.
