无源光以太网 (Ethernet Passive Optical Network,EPON)作为一种目前普遍看好的宽带接入技术 ,具有大带宽、高性价比、结构简单和具有一定的服务质量 (Quality of Services,Qo S)保证等特点。这些特点足以打动运营商、服务商和最终用户。文中比较系统地介绍了 IEEE 80 2 .3EFM (Ethernet for the L ast Mile,以太网最后一公里 )工作组正在研究和制定其标准的 EPON技术 (即 IEEE 80 2 .3ah标准 ) 。

Ethernet passive optical network (EPON), as a well promised broad access technology, features broad bandwidth, high performance/cost ratio, simple configuration, and certain “quality of service” promise. These are sufficient to attract operators, service providers and final users. In the paper it is introduced that IEEE 802.3 EFM group is researching and developing a standard EPON technology (i.e. IEEE 802.3 ah standard), also the advantages and key technologies of EPON as a broadband access technology are presented.
