This paper briefly introduced the history and status of plastic optical fiber(POF).The advan-tage of POF is mainly described,specially the predominance of POF in high speed and short distance telecom munication network.At the same time the shortage of POF,such as great loss,narrow bandwidth and poor character of high temperature are also presented.At present,people are researching in this re-spects and try to make POF be widely used in fiber communication.
