An evident progress has been obtained recently in the study of photomagnetic effect (PME) since it was first studied in the late sixties. In the paper the progress is reviewed in following aspects: (1)the photoinduced magnetic anisotropy and the reversibility of PME, (2)the photomagnetic current and photoinduced magnetoresistivity, (3)PME in molecule_based magnets and its underlying mechanism.
