Through a case study on traditional urban blocks in Hankou's pre_colonial area, the urban conservation and renewal modes for the new generation of old urban areas are explored. It recommends to extend traditional blocks' style and features through conserving their local fabric, cultural significance and architectural characters. Finally, after carefully researching on the organic relationships among architectural forms, urban environment and architectural culture, the harmony and consistence between the conservation of traditional urban blocks and the sustainable development of urban construction, will be sought for.
