A CAD/CAM system for multi-stage progressive dies for color TV parts has been developed. The system is to be implemented on a Micro VAX II workstation and consists of five modules, namely, feature modelling, strip layout, constructional design of die and NC programming. Feature modelling represents the features of the parts to be stamped in an all-round way, including the shape feature, accuracy feature and material feature. The strip layout module is used to accomplish progressive stamping process planning, which is composed of punching, blanking, bending, drawing and local forming. The constructional design of die is to be carried out in an interactive mode, with a menu system, function selection and die design can be easily performed.
