Detailed description of the structure, operation, fabrication, and performance of a fast response metal insulator semiconductor structure single crystal GaAs infrared liquid crystal light valve (GaAs IRLCLV) is given. A GaAs IRLCLV is demonstrated with a limiting resolution of 15 lp/mm over a 43mm aperture and contrast ratio of>20∶1.
