《文件自迩集注释》是威妥玛主编的优秀汉语第二语言公文教材。该教材的注释系统主要分为两个部分:注音系统和释义系统。该教材注音系统有23个声母、41个韵母,记音准确,但不太关注声调;释义详略有别,难度大的词语往往从结构、语义、功能、搭配或文化等方面释义。两个部分都紧扣学生母语和汉语的相同点和不同点,突出汉英对比,体现了教材的本土化特征。

Key to Tzu -Erh Chi : Docum entary Series, compiled by Thomas Francis Wade, is a qualified official documentary textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language, whose notes system can be divided into two branches: pronunciation notes and word notes. The pronunciation system has 23 initials, 41 finals which record precisely the pronunciation of Mandarin Chinese, but it pays little attention to the tones of the language. The word notes system differentiates its notes according to their difficulty and the difficult words are described in detail at the aspects of their construction, semantics, function, collocation as well as culture background. Both sub-systems run through with the thoughts of comparison and contrast between English ( students ’ mother tongue) and Chinese,which makes it a real localized textbook for British Chinese learners.
