胡适和胡先骕对科学的理解大相径庭:胡适把科学化约为一种指导人们治学与处世的方法和精神;而胡先骕则坚守科学本体,把科学视作"反映自然、社会、思维等客观规律的分科的知识体系"。差异的背后其实隐含着代表不同文化立场的二者对时代话语权的争夺。

Hu Shi and Hsen-Hsu Hu thought science quite differently. The former sees science as a method and spirit of guidingpeople to study and to live; while the latter sticks to the scientific ontology, regarding science as a branch of the knowledge system thatreflects the objective laws of nature, society and thinking. The difference in their understanding actually reflects their different culturalviews and their competition for more say at their time.
