汉英数字“0”概念与措词差异研究

Differences on Concept and Diction of Numeral "0"

在汉语中,表示"0"概念可以使用阿拉伯数字"0",也可以用汉字小写"〇",以及汉字大写"零"。而在英语中,除使用数字"0"外,通常使用英语单词"zero"。此外,数字"0"在英语中还可以用cipher、cypher、love、nil、nix、null、nothing、naught、nought、O等表示,但它们的使用场合不尽相同。因此,在同一种语言中,需要考虑数字"0"概念的词语选择,而在汉英互译时,也应注意彼此表示"0"概念的差异性,选择准确的词语。

In Chinese, we may use the Arabic numeral “0冶 to express the concept of nothing, and we also use the small Chinesecharacter “ O ” , the capital Chinese character “零” as "well. But in English, besides the numeral “0 ”, people usually use theEnglish word “zero”. In addition, other expressions such as cipher,cypher,love,nil,nix,null,nothing,naught, nought and O inEnglish are also used in different situations. Even in the same language, we should consider the concept of the numeral “0” andchoose the right expressions, and should pay attention to the conceptual differences of “0” and choose the right word in Chinese-English translation.
