《小时代》多因被理解为刺激了年轻一代对物质的崇拜而受到批判,然而无论是物质追求还是其中残酷的青春,都是小说中"小时代"的表现,表现了一个大时代的某些特色鲜明的侧面。在这个"小时代"中,物质的发展要求人不断地强化自我的社会角色,转换其作为社会一员的人格面具,因而,表现个体情感需求的内在人格不断地被理性压缩,人格内在的分裂和矛盾冲突由此加强。

The novel Tiny Times is often criticized for its materialistic advocation among the young people,and critics think that will set a bad example, but both materialistic pursuits and the pains of the youth are representations of the era. In the era of “tiny times”, the development of the society demands people to pay more attention to their social identity, and to the shifting of their persona as a social member, so the personality of people who live in an era like this may be stronger in the external but their internal needs are suppressed by the strong external environment, which may add to the dissociation and contradiction of personality.
