Objective To evaluate the effect of psychological nursing intervention on treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods A total of 68 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into the observation group ( n = 34 ) and the control group ( = 34 ) . Both groups were treated with conventional nursing measures such as health education, diet control, exercise, medication direction and self - supervision. The psychological nursing intervention was performed in the observation group additionally. Levels of fasting plasma glucose ( FPG) , 2 h postprandial blood glucose (2 h PBG) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) before and after intervention as well as medication compliance and self-care ability were compared between two groups. Results Levels of FPG, 2 hPBG and HbAlc decreased significantly in both groups after intervention (P <0.05 o rP <0.01) , and these indexes improved more significantly in the observation group than the controls (P <0. 05) . Thepatients in the observation group had higher compliance and better outcomes in assessment of self-careability compared with the controls (P <0.05 o rP <0.01). Conclusion On the basis of conventional nursing, psychological nursing intervention can improve medication compliance and self-care ability in patients with type 2 diabetes
