成语典故英译中补偿手段的应用

On the application of compensation devices in the C-E translation of Chinese idioms and their stories

翻译过程中,语言文化之间存在一定的缺省,甚至冲突,从而导致翻译不同层面的损失,这种损失如果不经译者补偿,译文读者的理解会存在语义疑团,因此翻译中的补偿手段是必要的。汉语成语典故文本具有独特的民族文化特色,翻译过程中采取适当的补偿策略尤为重要。本文以纽马克和夏廷德的补偿理论为基础,以《中国成语典故英译》为实践内容,从语言、文化以及审美三个方面,分析其翻译过程中的补偿策略问题。

Since various degrees of losses will result in the linguistic and cultural defaults in the process of translation,it is of great necessity to adopt some compensation devices to avoid the semantic ambiguity. The texts of Chinese idioms and their stories manifest great features of Chinese culture, in which compensation devices are especially in need. Based on the compensation theories of Peter Newmark and Xia Tingde, this paper analyses the compensation devices applied in the translation of Chinese Idioms and Their Stories Translated into English from the perspectives of linguistics, culture and aesthetics.
