明代蓟镇武学考

An Investigation of Military Education in Jizhen in the Ming Dynasty

隆庆五年,明廷鉴于蓟镇独特的军事地理位置和将帅乏人的现实以及在当时"内修政守,外示羁縻"政策的促使下,在蓟镇的遵化、密云、永平三处设置武学,储养将才,以备缓急。此类武学所学内容与军事实际需要紧密结合,对巩固边防,促成边地尚武风气的形成以及完善明代武学制度产生了重要的积极意义。

In the fifth year of Longqing’s reign, in light of the military significance of Jizhen’s geographic location and the lack of talented military leaders and soldiers, the Ming government set up military education at Zunhua, Miyun and Yongping in Jizhen, in compliance with the policy of “strengthening defensive constructions and keeping a good relationship with neighbors” and with an aimof fostering military leaders. Such education is practical for local military defense, and is significant for the consolidation of frontier defense, the formation of local warrior tradition and the improvement of military education system of Ming dynasty.
